This is Hamilton Helmer's 7 Powers framework packaged as a strategic analysis tool. It walks you through evaluating businesses for durable competitive advantage across seven specific categories: Scale Economies, Network Effects, Counter-Positioning, Switching Costs, Branding, Cornered Resource, and Process Power. The methodology is rigorous about requiring both a benefit and a barrier for true Power, which cuts through a lot of startup bullshit about moats. Most useful when you're making strategic decisions about where to invest time or money, analyzing acquisition targets, or honestly assessing whether your business can defend its margins. The framework is complete and mutually exclusive, so you're actually covering all the bases rather than brainstorming vibes.
