Playwriter connects Claude to the Chrome browser you already have open, which means it reuses your existing logins, cookies, extensions, and tabs instead of spawning a clean headless session. That makes it the right choice when you need to automate something that depends on being logged in or when manual MFA handoff is easier than scripting around it. It works through a Chrome extension plus CLI and exposes Playwright-style commands over MCP. The tradeoff is obvious: you get stateful convenience but lose the reproducibility of a fresh browser. If your task needs isolation or CI-style repeatability, route to a clean-session tool instead. This is privileged mode automation, so use it when session reuse actually matters.
