Wraps the NHTSA vPIC API so you can query vehicle product information without dealing with authentication or manual API calls. Exposes two main tools: get_makes pulls all vehicle brands for a given model year, and get_models returns vehicle models filtered by make and year. Useful when you're building features that need automotive reference data, like VIN decoders, vehicle comparison tools, or recall lookup systems. Part of the Pipeworx gateway, which means you can either use it standalone or access it alongside 250+ other data sources through a single MCP connection. The API itself is free and requires no auth, so there's no credential juggling.
NHTSA MCP — wraps the NHTSA vPIC (Vehicle Product Information Catalog) API (free, no auth)
Part of Pipeworx — an MCP gateway connecting AI agents to 884+ live data sources.

Add to your MCP client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.):
{
"mcpServers": {
"nhtsa": {
"url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/nhtsa/mcp"
}
}
}
Or connect to the full Pipeworx gateway for access to all 884+ data sources:
{
"mcpServers": {
"pipeworx": {
"url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp"
}
}
}
Instead of calling tools directly, you can ask questions in plain English:
ask_pipeworx({ question: "your question about Nhtsa data" })
The gateway picks the right tool and fills the arguments automatically.
