Gives Claude direct access to bioRxiv and medRxiv preprint servers through four main operations: pull metadata by DOI or date range, check which preprints got published in peer-reviewed journals, filter by publisher DOI prefix, and grab submission stats over time. Runs through Pipeworx's gateway as a streamable HTTP endpoint, so no local setup. Useful when you're doing literature reviews, tracking preprint-to-publication pipelines, or analyzing research output trends in life sciences. The ask_pipeworx wrapper lets you query in plain English instead of calling tools directly. Part of a larger gateway with 673+ data sources if you need to correlate preprint data with other research APIs.
bioRxiv / medRxiv MCP
Part of Pipeworx — an MCP gateway connecting AI agents to 673+ live data sources.
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
details | Preprint metadata by DOI or by date / date range. |
published | Preprints that have since been published in a peer-reviewed journal. |
publisher | Preprints subsequently published by a given DOI prefix (e.g. "10.1038" for Nature). |
summary | bioRxiv submission/publication counts. Interval: "m" (monthly, default) or "y" (yearly). bioRxiv only — medRxiv has no /sum endpoint. |
Add to your MCP client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.):
{
"mcpServers": {
"biorxiv": {
"url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/biorxiv/mcp"
}
}
}
Or connect to the full Pipeworx gateway for access to all 673+ data sources:
{
"mcpServers": {
"pipeworx": {
"url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp"
}
}
}
Instead of calling tools directly, you can ask questions in plain English:
ask_pipeworx({ question: "your question about Biorxiv data" })
The gateway picks the right tool and fills the arguments automatically.
