Gives Claude access to the Bioregistry, a meta-registry of biomedical identifier prefixes used across genomics, proteomics, and clinical databases. Exposes four tools: look up prefix metadata, substring search over prefixes, resolve CURIEs like "uniprot:P12345" to provider URLs, and paginate through all registered prefixes. Useful when you're working with biological data identifiers and need to validate prefixes, find the right namespace for a dataset, or generate canonical URLs for database entries. Part of the Pipeworx gateway, so you can either connect to this single server or get it bundled with 250+ other data sources through their unified endpoint.
Bioregistry MCP.
Part of Pipeworx — an MCP gateway connecting AI agents to 673+ live data sources.
| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
prefix | Prefix metadata. |
search | Substring search over prefixes. |
resolve | Resolve a CURIE (prefix:id) to a provider URL. |
prefixes | Paginate over all prefixes. |
Add to your MCP client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, etc.):
{
"mcpServers": {
"bioregistry": {
"url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/bioregistry/mcp"
}
}
}
Or connect to the full Pipeworx gateway for access to all 673+ data sources:
{
"mcpServers": {
"pipeworx": {
"url": "https://gateway.pipeworx.io/mcp"
}
}
}
Instead of calling tools directly, you can ask questions in plain English:
ask_pipeworx({ question: "your question about Bioregistry data" })
The gateway picks the right tool and fills the arguments automatically.
